Pre Treatment Care:

1. Do not use skin irritants (Retinol A, AHA, glycolic) for at least 1 week prior to treatment. 2. Do not use photosensitive drugs for 7 days prior to treatment. 3. If you are using Hydroquinone, stop it a minimum of 2 weeks prior to treatment. 4. Certain laser treatments should be avoided prior to microdermabrasion while others can safely used within the same week.  Discuss previous and future laser treatments plan with your technician in advance. 5. Discontinue anti-acne Accutane oral medication a minimum of 6 months prior to treatment. 6. Treatment should be postponed if you currently have inflamed acne lesions, open cuts or scratches on your face, or active cold sores on lips or face.  Please wait a minimum of 3 months following any facial surgery. 7. Use sunscreen, minimum SPF 30, prior to Laser treatments to ensure protection of skin and that you have no fresh tan by the time of treatment. Do not tan indoors or out or use spray tans or tanning creams.

Post Treatment Care:

1. Treated areas may be tender, slightly red, or swollen. This usually appears within 12-24 hours of treatment. If redness or swelling occur, apply a cool compress for 15 minutes per hour.  Re-apply as needed.  Serene Soothing Cream from your Post-treatment kit will also provide relief. 2. Occasionally, you may experience slight flaking in localized areas for 1-2 days.  Use Serene Soothing Cream or Serene Hydrating Lotion.  Do not  pick, scratch, pull or rub your skin during this time.  If you do, you may damage the underlying new skin and cause scarring or changes in pigmentation. 3. Avoid heating the area ie. extensive exercise, sun tanning, tanning beds, swimming pools, hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms, hot showers and waxing hair removal for 24 hours. 4. You may shower the day of your treatment.  Wash gently with cool to warm water and Serene Sensitive Skin Cleanser, do not exfoliate.  Pat dry, do not rub. 5. Avoid make-up until the site is healed.  Mineral make-up is the best choice following initial healing. 6. Avoid direct sun and sun bed tanning for the course of treatments and the month following final treatment.  Use sunscreen with SPF 30 minimum, daily. 7. During the entire time of healing (2-7 days), you should only use products recommended by your skin care professional, these will be found in your post treatment kit.  The Serene Healing Facial Mask can be used 1-2 times per week.  Do not apply any glycolic acid products during this time or your skin may become irritated. 8. Pigmentation change (hypo or hyper pigmentation) may occur. This is usually temporary but in some cases may be permanent.  It is vital to avoid sun exposure and skin irritants. 9. Avoid further microdermabrasion treatments for 8 days.
